Vital Report - Hibernian 2-0 Aberdeen
Aberdeen's League Cup run is over after a defeat at Easter Road against Hibernian on Wednesday.
Not only are Aberdeen out of the League Cup, with Cummings and Malonga scoring late goals to put Hibernian through to the last eight, this two-nil defeat ends the Dons' 100% domestic record....
Most worrying of all for Aberdeen though will be the injuries picked up by Willo Flood and Graeme Shinnie!
The most dominant action of the first half was the fact Aberdeen had to make two changes with Flood picking up an ankle knock to be replaced by Pawlett and then Shinnie forced off, and helped of by the physio, after a 50:50 saw him come off worse! On for him was Liverpool loanee McLaughlin.
As for the chances, the best ones went to Hibernian's Cummings with Goodwillie unable to add to his brace at the weekend in the convincing win over Hibs' Edinburgh rivals Hearts as the half ended goalless.
Pawlett had the best second half chance but his header, from a McGinn cross, wasn't one he could force past Oxley or a save from the Hibernian 'keeper as he put this over soon after the break.
With extra time looming some fine play from Cummings (82) had Hibernian ahead, after bringing the ball down he worked his way into an opening and fired an effort, which Ward had no chance with, past the Liverpool loanee 'keeper.
Aberdeen had to push for an equalised and doing that allowed the hosts to secured the win, Cummings took his leave with him replaced by Malonga (86) who broke away on the counter attack before finishing past Ward to, like the last League Cup meeting in 1998, secured a Hibs win.
McInnes will be disappointed to see the unbeaten domestic run ended, however it'll be the injuries that concern him more as we look to maintain our Premiership form at the weekend!
Did a starter, or someone from the bench, offer the most in this first defeat of the domestic season?
