Vital Report - Aberdeen 1-0 Hamilton

1 - 0

Attendance: 13,246

Aberdeen's Scottish Premiership season continued with a win at Pittodrie against Hamilton on Tuesday.

The game in hand that Aberdeen had was won one-nil, thanks to a Rooney penalty, to extend the gap over defending Champions Celtic. However, we all know we're still at an early stage in the SPL season and no one will be getting too carried away by the Dons' start to the campaign!

Having beaten Celtic two-one on Saturday, coming from behind to do so, coupled with the start already made, a sense of 'we'll win again' could be felt but after taking a while to get going Aberdeen started to threaten with McGinn having a couple of chances and Rooney heading wide.

When McLean gave Shinnie the chance to run in on goal, with him brought down by Gordon it was a clear penalty and Aberdeen had the chance to take the lead. Rooney (23) made no mistake as he finished into the corner to give the Dons the lead at the midway point of the first half.

Hamilton had an appeal for a penalty turned away, as Aberdeen had before the one given, with chances at a premium for the remainder of the half.

A second goal would have done it for sure but a well worked move ended with Rooney's head kept out by a fine save from Hamilton 'keeper McGovern with another penalty appeal, when Hayes was looking for a handball against Gillespie, turned away.

Kurtaj reminded the Dons the game wasn't over when he went close for Hamilton with McGinn denied that decisive second goal by the crossbar when his effort did beat McGovern via a deflection.

When Parker, who ran through with just the 'keeper to beat, blew the chance to make sure of the points a few worrying moments would still come....

Aberdeen, not due to a sending off this time, ended another game with 10-men as Taylor was forced off due to a cut eye but it didn't matter as the best start to a season the Dons have made was extended!
