Vital Report - Aberdeen 2-0 Kilmarnock

2 - 0

Aberdeen's Scottish Premiership season continued with a win at Pittodrie on Sunday, as the Dons reacted positively to the Europa League exit with a two-nil win against Kilmarnock to, even at this stage, join Celtic - along with Hearts - at the top of the SPL table on six-points apiece.

McInnes, and the players, were all insistent that the European exit to Karait Almaty, as disappointing as it was, wasn't one we should have felt any shame about but a reaction was wanted and this came on Sunday with an eighth win from eight-matches against Killie under the Dons boss secured.

Shinnie's first half strike, his first for the Dons, and Rooney's second half penalty secured the points.

McGinn saw an effort saved by Kilmarnock 'keeper MacDonald, from the corner Quinn, who almost forced extra time on Thursday, was denied again when he headed against the crossbar.

Aberdeen made the breakthrough when Shinnie (37), formerly captain at Inverness Caledonian Thistle, struck into the roof of the net before the break.

Killie threatened an equaliser but when Ashcroft brought down Flood the Dons had a penalty and the chance to give some breathing space, which was taken when last terms top goalscorer Rooney (56) made no mistake and that was that.

Star Player

Two-from two, either side of tough European games to start the Premiership season isn't bad is it! When you've been won it's sometimes easier to pick out a Man of the Match, but who was this for Aberdeen in this game?

That's what the latest poll is asking so do cast a vote. Did a starter, or someone from the bench, offer the most in this two-nil win?

Select the Dons name you want from the list in the poll to your right but why not also share your thoughts on your thinking, and the game itself, with some views too!
